Why The Works

For one thing, we do great work – in pixels and print – for some of the world’s best companies. For another, we’re in a fantastic place to spend your workday. Our custom-designed building sits in the heart of Corktown – an up-and-coming district just minutes from the downtown core, the subway and many of the city’s best markets, parks and restaurants.

The Works is also great because we work (really) hard to make it that way. We have to. Our success depends on the efforts of talented, committed people. And while the stuff we do is fun, interesting and challenging, it ain’t easy.

Our busy season is seriously intense, with long days and lots of overtime. So we make sure to give back in the off-season with summer hours and a year-round flextime policy.

We’re also a dog-friendly studio. You’ll find a couple of big ones roaming around, so you’ve got to be comfortable with four-legged co-workers.

Account/Project Manager

The Works Design Communications is a full-service studio with expertise in brand development and stakeholder reporting, serving some of the world’s best companies. Our passionate, diverse and committed team is made up of subject matter experts, consultants, designers, writers and strategists who come together to create great work with purpose.

The Works’ custom-built offices sit in the heart of Toronto’s Corktown, just minutes from some of the best markets, parks and dining in the city. With all the bells and whistles of a brand new space, The Works’ studio comes with extras that keep our award-winning team smiling through their sweat – above and beyond the all-you-can-drink coffee.

This is not a nine-to-five kind of place and knowing that we make sure we offer some pretty awesome perks. Summertime rooftop BBQs (yes, we have a deck up there), kitchen bake-offs, and the occasional beverage cart are a few ways we keep the creative juices flowing at The Works. As the job title suggests, this is a challenging role which blends the higher level strategy of account direction, with the detailed problem-solving of day-to-day project management. Managing the conflict between these two parts of your job will be key to your success.

What will you be doing, specifically?

Orchestrate and implement The Works’ projects (web and print) from end to end by:

  • Preparing quotes, briefs, estimates, proposals, schedules and invoices
  • Participating in client and internal meetings and presentations
  • Delegating tasks to a team of design, web and print production specialists
  • Obtaining approvals and sign-offs – both internal and from clients
  • Communicating project objectives and scope to design, development and production teams
  • Facilitating decisions and encouraging co-operation in a fast-paced environment

What experience, special skills and personal traits do you absolutely need?

  • Minimum five years’ managing online and print projects in a busy agency environment
  • Proficiency organizing and orchestrating complex projects
  • Ability to juggle multiple (and competing) clients, projects and priorities
  • A sense of humour, collegial approach and passion for client service

Administrative Assistant

The Works Design Communications is seeking a smart, efficient and independent administrative assistant who enjoys doing the things that keeps the wheels turning, including making coffee, ordering meals, running errands, filing and data entry, answering phones, booking cabs and keeping the kitchen tidy for 35 creative types. You must have a valid driver’s licence and you must also like dogs.

Your Skills

  • Familiarity with business administration
  • Top-notch verbal communication skills and an excellent phone manner
  • Experience operating in a Macintosh environment
  • Intermediate knowledge of FileMaker Pro, Microsoft Word and Excel
